Distinguished Professor Emeritus Che Kan Leong (appointment, 1969, Institute of Child Guidance and Development; retirement, 1998). Professor Leong's research interest is in morphological and phonological processing in learning to read English and Chinese, reading comprehension, and developmental dyslexia.
Retirement has not slowed Professor Leong's research career. Since 1998 he has added to his long list of publications, 2 books, 13 book chapters, and 28 research papers. He has been a visiting scholar at six universities since retirement and served as editor-in-chief of Annals of Dyslexia (2001 - 2006). To many honors conferred upon him before retirement, including a doctorate honoris causa, University of Umea, and the U. of S. earned D. Litt. (1998), can be added the Margaret Byrd Rawson Lifetime Achievement Award of the International Dyslexia Association (2006) and a certificate of appreciation from the Hong Kong Society of Child Neurology and Developmental Paediatrics (2007).
