Paul Riemer

Paul Riemer (appointment, 1948, Department of Civil Engineering, College of Engineering; retirement 1988). Professor Riemer taught structural design and strength of materials. As principal in design and consulting firms Douglas and Riemer; and Douglas, Riemer, Froc, Robinson (1955-1971), he was responsible for the design of public buildings, including Saskatoon City Hall, Post Office, Public Library and Luther Towers. Paul served on many University committees and in professional organizations, including presidency of the Association of Professional Engineers, Saskatchewan (1966).
In recognition of his excellence in engineering and services to his profession, he was named Fellow, Canadian Association of Civil Engineers (1983) and Fellow, Engineers Canada (2009). He remains active in community life, including Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Saskatoon Camera Club. An honour hard to match was the red jacket he received, with permission of the Engineering Student Society, from his grandson and three fellow students when they graduated (2006).
