Dr. Judith Henderson is Professor Emerita of Renaissance Literature. In addition to being a longstanding and respected member of the English Department, Judith served as Assistant Dean Student Affairs and Associate Dean Humanities and Fine Arts in the College of Arts and Science. Not long after retiring, she was recruited to fill the busy post of Vice-President of the University of Saskatchewan Retirees Association. She took on USRA responsibilities with gusto and was especially committed to recruitment of new retirees. Judith went on to be USRA President at an exciting time for the Association. She was instrumental in facilitating the cordial and mutually supportive joining of the USask Non-Academic Retirees Association with the USRA. This enables all retired employees to have an Association that supports them and their connection with the University. She has led and served on the Awards, Communication, Education/Social & Recreation, Membership, and Nominations committees. Her undergraduate degree in Journalism was put to good use as USRA Newsletter editor. Her eye-catching headlines and knack of telling a good story were a pleasure to read, and she wrote with care about members no longer with us. When it comes to USRA objectives and activities, Judith promotes inclusiveness, women in academia and the disciplines of humanities and fine arts. Her scholarly contributions to the University continue through the T.Y. and Judith Rice Henderson Performing Arts Collection. T.Y. is Judith’s late husband and was an eminent Philosophy professor. The Judith Rice Henderson Bursary in Humanities and Fine Arts provides financial support for Honours students. Thank you, Judy.
