Ross Wilson retired in 2006 following a long career of high school and University sportsmanship, leadership, and service, notably in the fields of basketball and soccer. He served as Athletics Director from 1991 to 2006 and saw the Huskies win 11 national championships and 33 Canada West titles. He led construction and renovation projects for the PAC and Griffiths Stadium, increased scholarship dollars, led hosting bids for nine national championships and was a member of numerous local, Canada West and national committees. In retirement, Ross has continued to make invaluable contributions. Examples include chronicling the photographic history of Huskie Athletics, re-organizing and re-writing playing regulations and recruitment in Canada, chairing the ‘Raise a Paw’ scholarship fund for women’s basketball, writing the 25-year history of Huskie Women's Soccer, and organizing a 25-year reunion of athletes and coaches. Ross's leadership and vision have been instrumental in preserving the legacy of Huskie Athletics and enhancing the organizational structure of university sports in Canada. His efforts have ensured that the history and achievements of athletes are meticulously documented and accessible for future generations. He has shown a strong commitment to promoting women's sports and his initiatives have provided invaluable support and recognition to female athletes.

Ross is the recipient of the highest honour delivered by U SPORTS, the Austin Matthews Award for Outstanding Contribution to University Sport. The comprehensive reviews and recommendations he has provided have had a lasting impact on the sports’ governance and operational standards in Canada. His efforts have fostered a sense of community, connection and celebration among former athletes, and strengthened the bonds within the athletic community. Throughout these various roles, Ross has consistently demonstrated a dedication to excellence, whether in the thorough organization of archives, the thoughtful restructuring of sports regulations, or the strategic scheduling he continues to provide for Canada West. His contributions have significantly enhanced the quality and integrity of sports at our University and beyond. Thank you and congratulations Ross!
