Dr. Lea Pennock is a dedicated community contributor in numerous ways and continues to be widely respected for her expertise in governance, higher education, and environmental stewardship.

Lea completed her Bachelor of Arts at the University of Regina prior to pursuing her Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy at Queen’s University. She served as USask Registrar, University Secretary and Director of Student Information Systems, before her retirement in 2013.

Following retirement, Lea has undertaken a wide range of consulting and scholarly activities and has remained actively engaged in consulting and research work. She has provided expert advice and facilitated governance reviews for universities and organizations across Canada, helping strengthen institutional effectiveness and accountability. Her work includes research, editing, presentations and other activities including publications of the Food and Agriculture Organization, and the Convention on Biodiversity and European Commission.

Her commitment to service is equally evident in her extensive volunteer work. She has served in numerous leadership roles, including as Chair of the United Way of Saskatoon and Area, and has served on many boards.

Lea and her husband Dan have shared with USRA members stories of their travels and of her active involvement in the Canadian Company of Pilgrims, supporting Canadians undertaking the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. She has served as president of the national organization and founded the Saskatoon chapter. Her volunteer efforts extend to global citizenship and community support, including participation in refugee sponsorship initiatives and leadership in community wellness activities.

Lea is the enthusiastic coordinator of USRA’s Globe Walk Team – the Intensely Vigorous USask Retirees – helping to address the needs of older adults, promoting physical activity, fostering social connections, and providing a fun way to stay active and engaged during the winter. She and Dan log many steps for the team throughout the year.

Thank you and congratulations Lea!
